Part of a collection of photographs, film, engineering drawings, trade literature and business papers relating to the operations of the Victorian engineering firm A.T. Harman & Sons, of Port Melbourne. The company was active from the 1890s to late 1960s in the manufacture of steam winches, steam, petrol and diesel powered shovels, excavators and cranes, and other industrial equipment. They were eventually taken over by the Swedish firm Kockums, and the Melbourne Works closed. The material includes a considerable amount of trade literature from other overseas manufacturers of shovels and excavators.
