Summary

Yellow, Eastman Kodak Company safelight torch used by a former Kodak Australasia Pty Ltd employee, Brian Flynn.

Brian Flynn worked in Kodak Australasia's Emulsion Department for 17 years until the Coburg factory was closed in 2004. Safelight torches were an integral tool for many people working in the emulsion areas, which operated in almost complete darkness. Different safelight filters were used in staff torches and in the lighting within the building, to suit the type of product being made or coated. The torches were signed in and out by staff at the beginning and end of their work shift. An oral history was conducted in 2014 with Brian about his working life at Kodak.

This object complements the Kodak Heritage Collection of products, promotional materials, photographs and working life artefacts collected from Kodak Australasia in 2005, when the Melbourne manufacturing plant at Coburg closed down.
