Handwritten letter on two pages of Y.M.C.A letterhead from Private John W. Harland (241777) of the 5th Border Regiment to Miss Florence Crossley, c/o Red Cross Society, Newbridge, Victoria.

In the letter Private Harland thanks Miss Crossley for sending him socks and poetry. He suggests that in future he will write and send her poetry about life in the regiment.

He says: 'Just a few lines to thank you for the pair of socks which I received whilst in the Hospital. They are just what is needed out hear [sic], seeing that we have such a great amount of marching to do, and there is not another comfort better than to have a good pair of socks.'
