Summary
EPNS Ice bucket with removable lid.
It was made in Melbourne by K.G.Luke, under their Paramount brand, for the Southern Cross Hotel, in Exhibition Street.
It is believed to have been purchased new for the use of members of The Beatles entourage, when they stayed at the hotel in June, 1964. During this time they played six concerts at Festival Hall, two per night, on June 15th, 16th and 17th. Drummer Ringo Starr joined the group at the hotel after staying in England due to illness, in time for the first concert, while replacement drummer Jimmy Nichol left with little fan fair on the same morning.
After the group left, a room service waiter, who served the group, was allowed to keep it as a souvenir of their visit. He later put them up for sale through a Melbourne auction house, when they were purchased by the donor.
