Digital copy of a letter from John Browning, instrument maker, London, to George Denton Hirst (1846-1915), Mosman, New South Wales, 9 Oct 1877. Thanks Hirst for sending his 'beautiful drawing of Mars...the best I have seen for a long time.' Browning will have the drawing framed and exhibited at the next meeting of the Royal Astronomical Society.

George Denton Hirst was a successful wine and spirit merchant, partner in the firm Tucker & Co in Sydney, New South Wales, and a keen amateur astronomer.
