Summary
'Plan Folder 31' - a sheet of house designs, printed in blue on white, issued by the Small Homes Service of Royal Institute of Architects. The sheet was sold for 2'6 (two shillings sixpence), and was supported by 'plans and comments' published in the Age newspaper each Monday. The sheet includes the size and price of each house. The houses are of modern architectural style, with flat or low-hipped roofs and flow-through living, dining and kitchen areas.
The Royal Victorian Institute of Architects established its Small Homes Service in 1947, initially headed by architect Robin Boyd. The service provided a range of house plans and working drawings drawn up by architects, aiming to improve access to quality home design. The Service continued until 1981; the national architectural advice service Archicentre is its offspring.
