Summary
Alternative Name(s): Music Folio, Booklet, Musical Score
Sheet music for 'The Soldiers of the Queen', composed by Leslie Stuart in 1894 to celebrate the opening of the Manchester Ship Canal in England. He wrote its lyrics a year later, in 1895; its title was later variously changed to 'Soldiers of the King' depending on its use and the reigning monarch. It was played as a patriotic song during the Boer War. Leslie Stuart (1863-1928) was best-known as an English composer of Edwardian musical comedy.
The music was part of a large collection owned by Mr Harry Albert Turner and his wife Winifred Beatrice Maud (Winnie, nee Hill).
