Summary

'Railway Riot' board game in cardboard box with cards and rules of game play.

Railway Riot was a parlour game 'using key cards that are physically placed in various locations and must be found in a certain time-frame and according to a defined Railway schedule' (National Library of Australia, 2012). It was manufactured by G. N. Raymond Pty. Ltd., which operated from Easey Street Collingwood, Victoria, and was published by Universal Publication Ltd ('UPL') located in London, the licence-holders for the game.

Part of a collection of material donated by Miss Amy Turner, born in 1919, who became a school teacher from Western Australia who later lived in Essendon, Melbourne, with her widowed mother. It may have been used by Amy or her mother, Mrs Winnie Turner.

Physical Description

Rectangular cardboard box with separate lid containing train timetables, cards for players to fill in, directions of game play and solutions. Lid of box has a green map of Australia with a red train running through centre. Box lid has broken corners and some insect damage; inside cards are yellowed.
