Summary

Copy print of photograph of a wedding party outside a weatherboard house - the marriage of Edward Wooles & Fanny Eldridge in 1895.

Edward Wooles married Amelia Fanny Eldridge, daughter of Henry and Mary Eldridge, in Garvoc, Victoria, north-east of Warrnambool, on 17 April 1895 (marriage registration number 2062). 'Table Talk' reported that 'The township of Garvoc was en fete on Tuesday, April 17, when the marriage of Miss Fanny Amelia Eldridge, of Surbiton Park, Garvoc, to Mr. Edward Wooles, of Warrnambool, was celebrated at the Presbyterian Church. There were two bridesmaids in attendance, Miss Eldridge and Miss Mary Eldridge (sisters of the bride), and Mr. Osborne, and Mr. W.J. Eldridge acted as groomsmen. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. S. Walker, of Framlingham'. (26 April 1895, p.13). Framlingham, near Garvoc, was an Aboriginal reserve.

Edward was a mason by trade. In 1882, aged around 27, he went into business with a man called Mr Carpenter, trading as Wooles & Carpenter, memorial masons. Their business was located on the corner of Lava and Kepler Streets, Warrnambool. Wooles & Carpenter made many World War I memorial monuments in the Western District, including the monument at Naracoorte War Memorial, which still stands.

Electoral rolls indicate that Edward and Fanny Wooles lived in Warrnambool after marriage, and for the rest of their lives. They had about nine children. Fanny died in Warrnambool on 26 June 1930, aged 55; Edward died in Warrnambool on 31 August 1937, aged 82. His last address was Redford Street, Warrnambool (noted in 'Wills and Estates', The Argus, 10 November 1937, p. 4). His estate went to their children.
