Summary

Company receipt issued by Richard Allen & Sons, manufacturers' agents and importers of 164-170 Flinders Lane, Melbourne, to Messrs G. Jamieson Furs Pty Ltd, for the purchase of 824 x 1/4 'w. silk hose', on 24 February 1939. Silk hose became particularly popular during World War II, which broke out months after this sale. Jamieson Furs seems to have done well during the War years, advertising for new staff in 1946, and donating to the Red Cross. It had a warehouse and showroom at 326 Flinders Lane, Melbourne, in 1946, when it advertised for a 'warehouse girl...good with needle' and a 'smart girl...for the showroom'. G. Jamieson (Furs) Proprietary Limited was registered in 1930, and was deregistered in 2008, under the name Jamieson Fashion Group Pty Ltd. Richard Allen & Sons was registered in 1919 and deregistered in 1984.

Donated to Museum Victoria with a collection of material reflecting the economic life of the donor's parents, who lived in suburban East Malvern, in south-east Melbourne.
