Summary

Black and white postcard of the ship QSMV Dominion Monarch at Cape Town, South Africa. The postcard is addressed to Miss Elsie Storie and thanks her for a book given to the author of the postcard before he or she sailed, presumably on the ship depicted. The author mentions that the ship will arrive in Capetown next Tuesday. The author's mention of 'mother' suggests that he or she is a relative of Elsie, although the signed name does not look like that of her only sibling, John Francis Storie.

Part of a collection of paper-based ephemera relating to the life of Miss Elsie Storie, a middle-class Melbourne woman who was born around 1895, lived through both wars, and remained in Melbourne all her life.

The QSMV Dominion Monarch was launched in 1938 as an all first class passenger service, on the New Zealand-Australia-England route. During World War II it was used as a troopship. It was broken up in 1962.
