Summary

Medical training booklet that belonged to Miss Elsie Storie of Brunswick, later of Canterbury. The booklet covers properties of gases, precautions, first aid and decontamination.

Elsie lost a cousin and other friends in World War I, and became involved in home front activities during World War II, aged in her 40s. Notes and underlines in the book indicate that she used the book while being trained. She has listed gases common in World War I at the back, and their effects: phosgene, chlorine, 'K.S.K.' (tear), mustard and lewisite (the latter not used in World War I).

Part of a collection of paper-based ephemera relating to the life of Miss Storie, a middle-class Melbourne woman who was born around 1895, lived through both wars, and remained in Melbourne all her life.
