Summary
This handkerchief was produced to commemorate the appointment of Prince George, the Duke of Kent, as the new Governor General of Australia, in 1939. Due to the outbreak of World War II, his appointment was delayed, and never eventuated due to his death in an air crash in 1942.
It belonged to Emily Hannah Francis, of Garden City, and was part of a collection of 145 souvenir and commemorative handkerchiefs put together by Emily, sent to her by pen friends from around the world, up to her death in 1943.
