Summary

This handkerchief features embroidered flowers and blue triangle applique as well as drawn thread grid.

It belonged to Emily Hannah Francis, of Garden City, and was part of a collection of 145 souvenir and commemorative handkerchiefs put together by Emily, sent to her by pen friends from around the world, up to her death in 1943.

Physical Description

Fine white cotton handkerchief with hand-finished edging in blue cotton. Features drawn threadwork inner grid border in blue thread, with two blue applique triangles in each corner. These corners are further decorated with floral garlands embroidered in orange, yellow, red, green and light blue silks.
