Summary
Postcard sent from Private Bill Nairn to his sister from France around 1917 to 1918, during World War I. Bill writes roughly and hurriedly, wanting the share the beauty of the church depicted: 'Christ dit St Sauve' - the Saint-Michel Chapel, Notre Dame Cathedral, Amiens, France. The word 'Amiens' has been concealed, probably by a censor. The chapel was built in 1389. Bill was killed in the trenches of France on 4 July 1918.
Physical Description
Postcard featuring photograph of a large statue of Christ at an altar, with candles and flowers around, and inscription below, part of which has been obscured by a dark line. The other side has a printed postcard format, with hand-written writing in pencil in a rough, hurried manner. Its edges are slightly curled and discoloured in places.
