Summary
Postcard featuring embroidered words 'TO MY DEAR SISTER', Australian (Red Ensign) and British flags and flowers, written from Private William Nairn to his sister Sarah Jackson on 1 April 1917, during World War I. He has just spent four days in London, only weeks after arriving in England from Australia, and longs for letters from home. He has already received several from his wife Eileen, however.
William was killed in the trenches of France on 4 July 1918.
Physical Description
Postcard featuring a panel of coloured embroidery, set within an embossed white cardboard frame. The embroidery features the words 'TO MY DEAR SISTER' under an image of crossed Australian (Red Ensign) and British flags, with leaves and yellow flowers around and a larger pink and red flower at centre. The back of the postcard has a printed proforma, over-written by hand-writing. Several large stains and an area of loss suggest that the postcard was glued into an album at some stage.
