Summary
Card printed in memory of Trooper Alexander Nairn, who was killed on 23 December 1916 at Maghdaba, Egypt, probably during the Battle of Magdhaba (also known as the Affair of Magdhaba. Note different spelling to card).
Alexander Nairn was a farmer in Buangor, near Ballarat, prior to his enlistment on 20 July 1915. He served as a trooper with the 8th Australian Light Horse Regiment - service no. 1355. He was cousin to William Nairn, killed in France in 1918.
Physical Description
Folded card, forming four sides. Cover is printed in blue, red, purple and black on off-white. Features an oval photographic portrait, head and shoulders, of a soldier wearing an ammunition belt and slouch hat. Above are the coloured flags of Australia, Britain and France. Inscription above and below; purple border around edge. Inside pages have extensive printed inscriptions; back is blank. The card has small sections of discolouration and foxing.
