Electro-plated nickel silver baby's rattle in the shape of a doll, possibly originally attached to a teething ring (suggested by the larger ring at the top).

The rattle was given to the donor, Valerie Christina McKenzie (later Valerie Roberts), born 1931, by friends of her parents Alice and Bill McKenzie. It was strung on a string across her pram. It may be somewhat older than this date.

Physical Description

Electro-plated nickel silver baby's rattle in the shape of a doll with rotund torso, hands by sides and feet pressed together. The doll has small face and a tiny curl below a ring on its crown. The doll is wearing an egg around its torso, with jagged opening at top and bottom, and a bow around its middle. A larger ring is attached to the head ring with connector at top. The doll is flattened in several places, including the forehead, belly, back of torso and back of head. It contains a small metal ball, just visible through a hole in the feet, which creates a rattling sound when moved.
