Summary
This photograph depicts a meeting between the author Alan Marshall (on crutches) with a Russian seaman in the early 1970s. Long-term peace activist, Aboriginal rights campaigner, Communist Party supporter, academic and author 'Aunty' Mollie Bayne had arranged for the seamen to meet Marshall. Marshall was a well-known and highly regarded author in the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR). The novelist Judah Leon Waten and Wongar's editor Winifred Hall would often associate with 'Aunty' Mollie Bayne, although they were not present on this occasion.
