Summary
Prize Certificate, First Order of Merit, presented to John Buncle & Sons, Engineers, Boilermakers, Blacksmiths and General Ironfounders, at the Australian Federal International Exhibition, by the Chairman of the jury dated 31 January 1903. The certificate was awarded for a Travelling Chaffcutter with Patent Micrometer Adjustable Spindle and Patent Brake. John Buncle was one of the group of businessmen and inventors who revolutionised Australian and world farming practices in the nineteenth century. John Buncle & Sons were at one stage among the foremost of manufacturers of travelling chaffcutters in the the world.
The Australian Federal International Exhibition was held in the (Royal) Exhibition Building from November 1902 - January 1903. It was ostensibly a trade show, promoted and managed by Joules Joubert to promote Australia's industrial progress. The ground floor of the exhibition building was filled with industrial exhibits, while the mezzanine was transformed into a gallery for the display of art works.
Physical Description
Certificate adhered to card, very warped and foxed. Printed in full colour, with with two gold coloured metal medals adhered to the front of the certificate. One corner of the certificate and mount has broken off.
