One envelope with one brown-lilac 2 Pence stamp attached. Issued in 1858, this stamp depicts a side profile portrait of Queen Victoria. Envelope is addressed to "Miss Cordell"of Little Ryrie Street.
H. W. Johnston notes that this stamp was printed by Mr. F.W. Robinson.
This collection was once one of the premier studies of colonial Australasian stamps. Originally bequeathed to the National Gallery of Victoria, the collection was left with the State Library when the Gallery moved to St Kilda Road, in 1978. It was later transferred to the Museum of Victoria.
Physical Description
Single brown-lilac 2 Pence stamp attached to envelope. Pictured is a side profile portrait of Queen Victoria wearing a crown. In each corner is an emblem. The top left has a cow and a sheep and the top right has a sailing ship.
