Single brown 6 Pence stamp. Issued in 1856, this stamp was released for use in New Zealand. Pictured on the stamp is a portrait of Queen Victoria. H.W. Johnston notes that the stamp was printed in Auckland.Paper is watermarked with a large star.
Exact colour and SG number could not be determined.
This collection was once one of the premier studies of colonial Australasian stamps. Originally bequeathed to the National Gallery of Victoria, the collection was left with the State Library when the Gallery moved to St Kilda Road, in 1978. It was later transferred to the Museum of Victoria.
