Summary

Certificate of appreciation awarded to Peter Darling (AKA Peter Auty) for his involvement in the Enchanted River Reflections event. The certificate includes the following text; 'Enchanted River is an annual celebration of the Murray River made for, by and about the community. Spectacular and breath taking in its effects, it is an arts event, located on the banks of the Murray River, reflecting the thoughts and feelings of people in the Albury Wodonga region about their river'. Peter Auty was known by the nickname 'Peter Darling', following his membership of the Communist Party of Australia where he would refer to fellow members as 'comrade darling'.

Peter's poem 'No More' combined with his many community and training certificates shows the difficulty for even highly trained fire-fighters to fight the Black Saturday fires, and highlights the effect that this unprecedented event had on the emergency services people involved.

Part of a collection that documents the life of Peter Auty, illustrating his colourful and interesting life, and why he was well loved by his community, recognized in the Victorian Parliament, and awarded two medals posthumously for the important role he played on and following Black Saturday. This collection forms part of the Victorian Bushfires Collection. This large and diverse collection was established following Black Saturday and includes a multi-disciplinary collection of artefacts, images and stories to record the experience and impact of bushfires across Victoria's landscape, ecology and history.
