Summary
Alternative Name(s): Doilies, Doily, Tablecloth, Mats
Dressing table set comprising one large and two small dark salmon pink oval cloths with off-white lace edging. The set was made by either Christina Dorothy McKenzie (1863-1948) or her daughter Christina Grey McKenzie (1888-1953). Its date of manufacture is known, but its style suggests the early decades of the 20th century.
Christina Dorothy was known to do needlework in the evenings after dinner at her family farm 'Craigilea', including lace-making; Christina Grey was apprenticed to a milliner and dressmaker at Sunbury on her 14th birthday, and later passed her 'superb skills' onto her sisters.
Physical Description
Dressing table set of three oval pieces, one large and two small, dark salmon pink with off-white lace edging. The large piece has an embroidered ring of white flowers on green foliage in its centre, ending with a white bow at the bottom of the circle. The edging is stained in places.
