Summary

Alternative Name(s): Booklet of Forms

Book of blank railway ticket issue forms printed for the Commonwealth Military Forces of Victoria. Each form specifically authorises the issue of a first class Defence Force railway ticket to a bearer, enabling them to attend rifle practice or a parade in uniform.

The ticket book was issued 'by order of Major A. P. Luscombe'. Luscombe served in the New South Wales contingent in the Boer War, was attached to the staffs of the Imperial and Indian armies, and was active in the Commonwealth Military Forces before World War I. He obtained his first commission in the permanent forces in 1889, became a captain in 1893 and became a brevet major in 1902. He was D.A.Q.M.G. (Deputy Assistant Quater Master General) on the NSW staff from 1906 until 1907; for Victoria from 1907 until 1910; then he went to Adelaide as chief staff officer. In 1911 he became lieutenant-colonel. Later in life he was appointed Commander of Victoria. He was a colonel by the time of his death in 1938.

This ticket book, dated '190....', with Luscombe as DAQMG in Victoria, would therefore have been issued 1907-1909.

Part of a collection of material associated with Dr John Hodgson Nattrass (1870-1943), who served in senior medical roles in Australia during World War I.
