Summary
This tie was made by Doug Kite, featuring a black and tan diamond pattern with a triangular end, using an 'over one-under two' method. The tie is made from kangaroo hide and has a plaited collar strap with adjustable buckle. The edge of the tie has been trimmed. The collection of ties that Doug has made are another example of his innovative, mathematical and creative flair in designing plaited items that have no known precedent.
Part of the Doug Kite Leather Braiding Collection which consists of handmade leather braided products, hand tools and works in progress made by Doug Kite from 1984 to 2016. The Collection also includes oral histories, video and photographs. The Collection was featured on the ABC Landline program on 7 August 2016.
