Summary

This single ear ring was made by Doug Kite with kangaroo hide using a four plait method. It is shaped like a gum nut. Doug has spent many years stretching the boundaries of what can be made with plaiting, as he said he enjoys 'inventing things, playing around, trying things others have never done...other plaiters just stay with whips for money'. He demonstrated this item at a rare trades display at Gulf Station, Yarra Glen. Doug has also made earrings by plaiting over golf tees.

Part of the Doug Kite Leather Braiding Collection which consists of handmade leather braided products, hand tools and works in progress made by Doug Kite from 1984 to 2016. The Collection also includes oral histories, video and photographs. The Collection was featured on the ABC Landline program on 7 August 2016.
