Summary

This tool was made by Doug Kite for thinning leather for braiding. It is made from aluminium and filed with two widths and depths. Doug used it by holding a stanley (utility) knife and pulling the leather toward him while it was held in a vice at the other end. This would involve Doug walking backwards for the desired length. Every braider uses different methods to thin leather.

Part of the Doug Kite Leather Braiding Collection which consists of handmade leather braided products, hand tools and works in progress made by Doug Kite from 1984 to 2016. The Collection also includes oral histories, video and photographs. The Collection was featured on the ABC Landline program on 7 August 2016.
