Summary
Bag woven by Paw Moo Baw Kaw Paw in Mae-La refugee camp south of the Burma-Thai border in 2012. Paw Moo, of Karen ethnicity, was visiting her daughter Thinja-Paw, who remains in the camp with her husband's family. She brought the bag with her when she returned to Australia after her visit. Paw Moo and the rest of the Baw Kaw Paw family arrived in Melbourne as refugees in 2007 and 2009 and resettled in Werribee.
The bag represents traditional Karen weaving style and design and Paw Moo continues to weave with other Karen women at the Wyndham Community Education and Community Centre in Werribee.
Physical Description
Cotton bag, blue dyed cloth of fine weave, with green and white stripes along bag and strap. Embroidered with coloured wools with wool strands hanging from bag opening. tassels at bottom of bag.
