Summary

Alternative Name(s): Printed Cloth

Patriotic printed scarf depicting the flags of the Allied nations during World War I: Great Britain (Union Jack), France, Belgium, Japan and Russia.

Purchased by the donor at the RSPCA opportunity shop, Mornington. The scarf may have been used as a souvenir or memento of the war, and was possibly sold to raise funds for the war effort; some were given away by retailers as an inducement to shop. Scarves were lightweight to post and cheap to buy.

Physical Description

Cloth scarf printed in full colour. Blue border with clustered flags on poles in corners, and pairs of flags along each edge. Centre is a fine checkboard pattern of flags on white background.
