Summary
Silk shawl made circa 1880s, owned by Charlotte (Lizzie) Twycross. It may have been used by her when visiting the Melbourne International Exhibition at the (Royal) Exhibition Building, 1880-81.
Physical Description
Silk triangular shaped shawl with black paisley printed silk on one side and vivid pink on the other side. The shawl has been hand quilted and has pink fringing.
Significance
This shawl provides additional context to the John Twycross International Exhibitions Collection by further documenting the life of one of it's curators, Charlotte Twycross. It also offers a glimpse into women's fashions in Melbourne in the second half of the 19th Century.
