Summary

Booklet entitled 'Preparing For Your Journey', relating to the migration voyage of Linda Dexter and her husband and child onboard the Sitmar Line 'Castel Felice' from south London in 1967.

Linda's husband was a camera salesman in London and the couple believed they would never be able to afford their own home if they stayed in England, where they rented a flat. They successfully applied for ten pound passages and sailed on the Castel Felice in March 1967. They arrived in Sydney and stayed at the Bunnerong Road hostel (and old army barracks) which the donor recalls as comfortable. Her husband found work at ICI immediately and within six months had saved enough for a house deposit in Hillsdale where they lived for three and a half years.

They moved to Woy Woy but found no work and relocated to Melbourne after a sales job offer at Myer in Melbourne. They lived in Surrey Hills for many years (renting) before purchasing a commission house in Werribee. The couple had five children. Linda has sometimes regretted leaving England but is satisfied overall and has returned to visit England several times. The family were naturalized in 1975 (her eldest English-born son was being called a Pommie at school and still insists he was born in Sydney).
