Summary
Photograph of a group of Kodak managers sitting on the verandah of Thomas and Alice Baker's house 'Manyung' in Mornington, 1920s.
This image possibly was taken during a Kodak conference, which Thomas Baker sometimes hosted at Manyung, for example in June 1921 and June 1925. It is quite possible that this photograph depicts the 1921 conference as some of the images are very similar to those taken of that event and reproduced in the Australasian Photo-Review in August 1921 pp.410-411.
Left to right:
F. Keon (Melbourne branch), JA Taylor probably (Melbourne), Fred Manning (Sydney), F Muirhead (Hobart), R Grave (Sydney), FC Saggers (Sydney)
It is possible that Mr F M Calcutt, Chief Engineer of Signals with Victorian Railways, was visiting the Bakers at Manyung when this was taken, but it is not yet clear if that was the case.
Originally part of a larger group of photographs housed inside a Kodak branded envelope addressed to a Miss H. Calcutt. Miss Calcutt wrote on the envelope that the photographs were taken by her father F.M. Calcutt who was the Chief Engineer of Signals with Victorian Railways. The envelope has been postmarked 7th of May 1976, but all of the images date from before that, possibly even to the late nineteenth century. It is unclear which of the photographs inside the envelope the inscription refers to.
This photograph is part of the Kodak collection of products, promotional materials, photographs and working life artefacts collected from Kodak Australasia in 2005 when the Melbourne manufacturing plant closed down.

This may have been taken at a Kodak managers conference at Manyung. Several of the men in this photograph appear in similar looking published photographs of the conference reproduced in Australasian Photo-Review in August 1921 p.410-411, although Mr Muirhead is wearing a different tie. This may have been taken in a subsequent year as not all conferences were documented in the APR. The Bakers purchased Manyung in 1919 and Thomas Baker died in 1928. The property was kept by Alice Baker and Eleanor Shaw but this photograph is thought to have been taken during the 1920s. -
