Summary
This hafted stone axe is painted with natural pigments. The head is an edge ground stone set into a wooden handle using vegetable fibre and resin. A narrow interlaced band is placed around the handle just under the head.

Physical Description
Edge ground axe. Stone has been mounted between two pieces of wood (with rounded ends) and cemented with beeswax. At the base of the axe head is a row of plaited vegetable fibre. The wooden handle and cement has been painted with red ochre; straight yellow lines have been drawn over the cemented area. MATERIAL: wood; stone; ochre; beeswax; fibre (bark). TECHNIQUE: cut; flaked; pecked; polished; hafted; painted.
