Folklorists Professor W.V. ( Bill) Aughterson and Margaret Coady, with Mrs Aughterson, photographed 6 July 1983, at the opening of the Dorothy Howard Children's Folklore Exhibition at the Institute of Early Childhood Development, Melbourne. The event was noted in the Australian Children's Folklore Newsletter no.5, September 1983: 'The Exbhition contained examples of Dorothy Howards collection and analysis of children's folklore over 60 years.' About 50 people attended the opening, at which Dr Des Connelly and Dr June Factor spoke. A cassette tape recording of the opening is held in the Dorothy Gray Mills Howard Collection, University of North Texas Special Collections, Series 16, Box 5, Items 4 and 15.

Margaret Coady worked at the University of Melbourne School of Education. Professor Aughterson was a professor in the Education Faculty at Melbourne University, and got to know US folklorist Dorothy Howard there. He was the editor of Taking Stock: Aspects of Mid-Century Life in Australia.
