Summary
Medal struck by Stokes & Son from copper mined in Tasmania to commemorate the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Victoria in 1897. Queen Victoria's diamond jubilee was celebrated the great enthusiasm throughout the British Empire. It prompted many Australian local governments to issue commemorative medals. This medal was commissioned by the Mount Lyell Mining and Railway Co.

View of the Mt. Lyell foundry (& mine?) mostly consisting of smoke; around on broad rim; MADE OF MOUNT LYELL COPPER . TASMANIA .
