Photograph from an album compiled by Sister Selina Lily (Lil) Mackenzie, documenting life as an Australian nurse during World War I. Lil nursed at the 1st Australian General Hospital (AGH) from October 1915 to January 1917. The 1st AGH was located in the Heliopolis Palace Hotel on the north-eastern edge of Cairo.
Description of Content
Team of four dark horses hitched to four-wheeled cart laden with bags and suitcases. A man sits at front of cart, wearing a uniform and New Zealand army 'lemon squeezer' hat. The cart stands at the base of steps to a large brick/stone building of Moorish style. Three men wait with further luggage at the top of the steps, one seated on a trunk or box.
