Summary

Photograph from an album compiled by Sister Selina Lily (Lil) Mackenzie, documenting life as an Australian nurse during World War I. Lil nursed at the 1st Australian General Hospital (AGH) from October 1915 to January 1917. The 1st AGH was located in the Heliopolis Palace Hotel on the north-eastern edge of Cairo.

Description of Content

Large stone or brick entrance building. Central arch through which several people are walking. Pair of tram tracks combine into single track to run through arch. Gothic-style window on either side of arch. Two further levels above are heavily ornamented, including pitched roof. Trees on either side of building, edged by picket fence on right of photograph.
