Summary
Hand-made wooden slat bucket possibly used by a plasterer in the construction of Mayday Hills Hospital, Beechworth, Victoria, circa 1867.
A similar, smaller bucket was allegedly found in about 1972 beneath the floor in one of the original 1867 buildings.
Physical Description
Wooden bucket consisting of round wooden base and 17 thick wooden slats of different widths held around the base with an iron rim at base and three rows of curved wood (possibly willow) fastened with nails and wire in centre of bucket, 15-21 centimetres from the base. Bucket still contains at base dried plaster, and shows evidence of wear at top of each slat where brushes and other tools have been wiped across the edge of the bucket. Sides slope slightly outwards.
