Summary
This hard-cover book, "Addresses to HRH The Duke of Cornwall & York and His Excellency The Governor-General The Earl of Hopetoun From The Municipalities of Victoria", contains illustrated citations from each city, town, shire and borough of Victoria. The book was printed by McCarron, Bird & Co., Melbourne, in 1901 to commemorate the Royal Visit to Melbourne for the opening of the first Australian Parliament on May 9 1901. Each certificate has signatures of the mayor and councillors, as well as an image of a prominent local building. The addresses made to the Duke and the Governor General are surrounded by elaborate borders containing native flowers, particularly wattle. Scenes of rural Victoria combine with classical columns, probably symbolising the uniting of a new Australia within the Empire.
