Small metal badge depicting an Australian soldier in uniform on the battlefield, in front of a red Australian flag which is drooping in the mud. Smoke from a battle is visible. Inscribed 'S.A.Wounded Soldiers Fund'. Made around 1915-1918 in South Australia.
While much of the support for wounded and ill soldiers was co-ordinated through the Red Cross, other organisations were formed for this purpose. Some established convalescent homes and other facilities. Money was collected by the South Australian Wounded Soldiers' Fund from at least May 1915.
Physical Description
Small metal badge, with metal pin at back which fits into a hole in the back of the badge. The front is coloured white, with an image of an Australian soldier in uniform on the battlefield, in front of a red Australian flag which is drooping in the mud. Smoke from battle is suggested. The back of the badge is slate-coloured metal.
