Summary
Bottle of Godfrey's Mixture used in the pharmacy of a mental health hospital in Victoria Australia circa 1860. It contained laudenum (an opiate) and treacle and was used as a sedative.
Physical Description
Small, clear, glass apothecary's bottle is standard medicine bottle shape. Oblong base, straight sides (front and back 3 times as broad), rounded shoulders, narrow, fairly short neck with protruding lip. Sealed with a crumbling cork. Hospital label on front for Godfrey's Mixture. Some dark brown liquid (mixed with disintegrated cork) in bottom of bottle. Note: cork is loose.
