Woodworker's clamp or hand screw, made by Sophus Bruhn, circa 1910-1940.
Used in the woodturning business of Adolph Bruhn & Son, Little Collins Street, Melbourne, to 1970 and then at South Melbourne, 1970-1990. Sophus Christopher Bruhn (1885-1958) was the son of the founder Adolph Bruhn.
The business made a wide range of wooden products, including tables and architectural mouldings, and undertook specialist turning tasks. Part of a collection of nearly 900 items, including a lathe, cutting tools, hand tools, products, workshop fittings, office equipment, portraits, and an accounts ledger.
Physical Description
.1 Clamp Screw Circular wooden length with smooth handle for 1/3rd of length and screw pattern for remainder. Small smooth tapering end at end of screw. .1 and .2 screw through the other lengths horizontally. .2 Clamp Screw Details as for .1 .3 Screw Clamp Rectangular wooden length tapering off at an angle on external side with one screw hole in middle of length and half a hole towards non-tapered end of length. .4 Screw Clamp Rectangular wooden length tapering off at an angle on one side at one end, with one screw hole in middle of length and one screw hole towards top of non- tapered end of length. Found in Area F of workshop, hanging on a pole.
