Laundry apron made in 1939 by donor's mother, Mrs Ethel Jones, from a hessian produce bag which was opened and the stitching removed before making it into an apron. Mrs Jones gave it to her daughter when she married.
As well as being used to make aprons, produce bags were used inside the covers of bush rugs and as the backing to a patchwork upper surface.
Physical Description
Hessian laundry apron made from a sugar bag with bib and right -hand pocket. A red and white tape, woven, depicting Dutch boys and windmills forms a border around the apron and across the top of the pocket. The tape is also used for neck and waist ties and for a vee of chevron design at the top of the bib.
