Summary

Glass cheese dish with lid. Alleged to have been recovered from the Loch Ard wreck in 1878 by the donor's great-grandfather William James and his brother James James. The two men were shipwrights.

Mr Rex Ebbert, a Melbourne expert on European glass, confirms that the dish is of the right period. The dome has a hole drilled through it, apparently after salvage. It was used by the donor's family in the bathroom to store sponges and soap.

Physical Description

Glass domed cheese dish and platter. Probably French Baccaret glass, moulded. Platter has been cracked but not broken.
