Summary
Jointer plane or long plane, used to square long edges of timber usually for jointing. Made circa 1890-1920.
Used in the woodturning business of Adolph Bruhn & Son, South Melbourne, 1970-1990, and previously in Little Collins Street, Melbourne, 1897-1970. The business made a wide range of wooden products, including tables and architectural mouldings, and undertook specialist turning tasks. Part of a collection of nearly 900 items, including a lathe, cutting tools, hand tools, products, workshop fittings, office equipment, portraits, and an accounts ledger.
Physical Description
Wooden rectangular block with v-shaped cut out at top in which is screwed protruding steel blade which reaches through to bottom with protrud- ing wooden cover laying flat against blade. Closed handle is at top. Top of plane lacquered whilst sides and bottom are raw wood. Found in Area E of workshop.
