Child's cream silk dress with lace trim. Part of a collection acquired by Museums Victoria in 1991, the dress is not dated. Its style suggests late 19th-early 20th century.
Physical Description
Cream/pale yellow child's silk dress with lace trim. Fabric has a lustrous surface, which might be interpreted as synthetic, but this is unlikely. Dress consists of high-waisted bodice with lace panel in the front flanked by pintucks. Lace panel at back with back opening to mid way in skirt is fastened by two shell buttons of different style. Short sleeves have pintuck decoration and lace cuffs. Pintucks also at hem with wide lace trim attached. Lace probably machine made with flower-tallies surrounded by geometric pattern in five point ground.
