Summary
This woollen flannel shirt was worn by the donor, Roy Fisher, when he worked as a stoker and later a foreman at the South Melbourne Coal Gasification Works. The shirt was part of the last issue of clothing to him prior to the Gasworks closing in 1957.
This style of flannel is often seen in work shirts, known colloquially as shearer's shirts.
Physical Description
Light brown, short-sleeved, woollen flannel shirt. The rounded neck is collarless and open part way down the front. There are two round white plastic buttons on the left side of the front opening. The back of the neckline has a semi-circular piece of flannel reinforced with red zig-zag stitching. In the centre of this semi-circle is a small cream coloured rectangular label. The front of the shirt is rounded at the hem. The back, also rounded, is longer.
