Ventile trousers designed by ANARE for use in the Antarctic and manufactured by the Commonwealth Government Clothing Factory. They are part of a field suit worn in Antarctica around 1953. They are part of Museum Victoria's collection of artefacts from the post-war era of scientific exploration of Antarctica.
Physical Description
Olive-green, wide-legged, loose-fitting trousers. The waist- band features a thick cotton weave, cream coloured drawstring. This drawstring is flat and has a line of blue stitching down its centre. It extends through two stitched openings in the centre of the waist band. There is a metal zip fly covered by a flap of material. Two side pockets each have metal zip openings. The trouser legs end with drawstrings. Each drawstring is cream-coloured, flat cotton weave emerging through stitched openings at the front. The machine stitching throughout is in brown cotton.
