Summary

Pants from the formal uniform of the Carabinieri, made and used circa 1900 - 1916. It belonged to Pasqualino Giordano born 12th July 1867 in Italy, a captain in the Benevento Carabinieri. He entered the Carabinieri as soon as he graduated from school. Pasqualino died 14th April 1916 as a result of an accident, he was due to beocme a Major, two months before his death. His daughter Mrs. Franco Giordano emigrated to Australia in 1956, bringing the uniform with her.

The Arma dei Carabinieri (Carabinieri) was created by King Victor Emmanuel I of Savoy, with the aim of providing the Kingdom of Sardinia with a police corps in 1814. After the unification of Italy the Carabinieri were appointed the First Force of the a newly founded Italian Army in 1861. In 2000 they became a separate branch of the Italian Armed Forces. The Carabinieri undertake both civilian police work and military work.

Black pants with double red stripe down each side and a tie sewn onto the bottom of each leg.
